Controlling mode locking in optical ring cavities
Imperfections in the surface of intracavity elements of an optical ring resonator can scatter light from one mode into the counterpropagating mode. The phase-locking of the cavity modes induced by this backscat-tering is a well-known example that notoriously afflicts laser gyroscopes and similar active systems. We experimentally show how backscattering can be circumvented in a unidirectionally ...
متن کاملCondition for tripartite entanglement
We propose a scheme for classifying the entanglement of a tripartite pure qubit state. This classification scheme consists of an ordered list of seven elements. These elements are the Cayley hyper-determinant, and its six associated 2 × 2 subdeterminants. In particular we show that this classification provides a necessary and sufficient condition for separability.
متن کاملUnconditional preparation of entanglement between atoms in cascaded optical cavities.
We propose a scheme to unconditionally entangle the internal states of atoms trapped in separate high-finesse optical cavities. The scheme uses the technique of quantum reservoir engineering in a cascaded cavity-QED setting, and for ideal (lossless) coupling between the cavities generates an entangled pure state. Highly entangled states are also shown to be possible for realizable cavity-QED pa...
متن کاملMonogamy and entanglement in tripartite quantum states
We present an interesting monogamy equation for (2⊗ 2⊗ n)-dimensional pure states, by which a quantity is found to characterize the tripartite entanglement with the GHZ type and W type entanglements as a whole. In particular, we, for the first time, reveals that for any quantum state of a pair of qubits, the difference between the two remarkable entanglement measures, concurrence and negativity...
متن کاملTripartite entanglement transformations and tensor rank.
A basic question regarding quantum entangled states is whether one can be probabilistically converted to another through local operations and classical communication exclusively. While the answer for bipartite systems is known, we show that for tripartite systems, this question encodes some of the most challenging open problems in mathematics and computer science. In particular, we show that th...
